Dear Cambridge Family,

Dear Cambridge Family,

On Saturday February 1 the study center hosted its first Cambridge Community Seminar. The topic of the five hour seminar was Islam, Christianity and Public Policy.  Seminar speaker was Dr. Lawrence Adams from the University of Virginia. Attendees, approximately 150, came from all over central Florida. A special thank you to the Keim Family whose generosity made the seminar possible. Cambridge Community Seminars, free to the public, are designed to address "front page" cultural issues, demonstrating the relevancy of Christian thinking for all of life. Watch your email for announcements of future seminars.

Several Cambridge students entered Ridge Arts' annual "Young Artists Show" in Winter Haven. Cambridge students were extraordinary, capturing two of the top five prizes, including the first place ribbon (there was no best of show) won by Karis Medina. Additionally Karis' photo "Church" is featured in the current edition of Art-i-Facts magazine. Receiving an award of merit was Cambridge student Jeremy Thrush. Karis and Jeremy are second year Cambridge arts student. Our congratulations to Karis and Jeremy!

Arts on the Park recently announced awards in its most recent exhibit, Pushing the Edge: Experimental Art. Cannon Kirby, Cambridge arts instructor, received two honorable mentions one for a mixed media piece and another for a photograph. Cannon was also mentioned recently in a newspaper review of the Ridge Art Associations 53rd Anniversary exhibit where two of his works were exhibited. You can look for Cannon at this year's Mayfaire-by-the-Lake, May 10 & 11.

In other Cambridge news former student Daniel Doohan recently acted in the Harrison Arts Center production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Paul Hughes, a friend of the study center, directed. And former student Katie Bell recently performed with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra in their Young Artists Concert. Our congratulations to both Daniel and Katie.

Cambridge student Josiah Armes has created two e-mail lists on Yahoo! The first one, "Young Intellectuals" is for teenagers wishing to discuss various topics from a Christian perspective. All teenagers are welcome to join the list! To subscribe, send an e-mail to:

young-intellectuals-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

The second group, "Engaging the Culture", is for people of all ages wishing to discuss cultural issues. All are welcome to join this list! To subscribe, send an e-mail to:

Friday, March 14 was the date for our first annual fund raiser, Mardi Gras Under the Stars. The Cambridge Fund Raising Committee chaired by Yomara Williams presented a classy evening of fine food, music and fellowship. Funds raised through auctions and corporate sponsorships totaled just under $29,000. A huge thank you to all who participated! And a special thank you to these corporate sponsors whose generosity helped make the event such a great success:

ˇ Community Rehab and Wellness

ˇ Dean Saunders Real Estate

ˇ Montgomery Retirement

ˇ The Law Offices of Burnetti, P.A.

ˇ Burnetti Children's Foundation

ˇ Dan Medina, P.A.

ˇ Miracle Toyota

We also would like to announce that an anonymous donor, through the Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland (Fran Munson, director), has recently donated $30,000 to Cambridge Study Center. This is a wonderful confirmation that God is sovereign and will use his people to accomplish his good plan and purpose in this community and the world. We are thankful to be a part of that plan and purpose! Please continue praying for the study center.

Warm regards,

Bruce and Jane Kirby
