We have survived
another Gainesville book sale! Sixty students, instructors
and parents left the study center shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Friday
October 20th. We arrived in Gainesville around 8:00 a.m. to stand behind
approximately 500 people who were already in line. Everyone had been
through one of the eight checkout lines by noon, we had lunch at the
popular Gainesville UF hangout, The Swamp, and were home again with a
huge load of books, by 4:00 in the afternoon. It was a successful trip
with the students enjoying the time spent together on the bus and
learning some things about building their own personal libraries... see
pictures below!
Cambridge student
Josiah Armes gave an organ concert on Sunday, November
11th at 3:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland. The concert,
which was performed on the church's pipe organ, featured classical music
and hymn arrangements. This pre-holiday concert is becoming a tradition
for the Southside Concert Series. Josiah was recently honored by First
Christian Church for serving as their organist and choir director. He
will now serve as organist for First Presbyterian Church in Dade City.
Bruce
spoke recently at First Christian Church in Lakeland. His text was
Jeremiah 29:1-11 and the message was titled: Our Hope and Future. We are
thankful for the opportunity to share Christ, who is our hope and
future, with a congregation who has been a wonderful host to the study
center this year.
Film Fridays for
students are going well with attendance peaking at 55.
Recently presented films include: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
(discussion lead by board member, Dean Saunders), O
Brother, Where Art Thou? (discussion lead by Dustin Kirby),
and Life is Beautiful (discussion lead by Eric Fullgraf).
Film Fridays will conclude for November on the 16th with The
Adventures of Baron Munchausen... all students and their friends
are invited. Please bring a snack or 2 liter drink!!
Our Film Fridays
for adults continues to grow. Twenty-three attended the recent screening
of A Passage to India at the home of Allen and Harriet
Montgomery. A lengthy and enthusiastic discussion led by Bruce
followed the showing of the film. Next month's screening will be the
Emma Thompson film Wit, shown on November 30th. All adults are
welcome, just bring a snack when you come. If you need directions call
Allen or Harriet at (863) 709-1445. Both Allen and
Harriet serve on the Cambridge Study Center Foundation board. Allen has
served as board chairman since the foundation was established two years
ago. We are thankful for their involvement and for the use of their home
and home theater to host Film Fridays for the adults.
Dustin and Cannon
accompanied Covenant Presbyterian Church's youth director, Jeff
McDonald to Covenant College's Preview Weekend November
8th-11th, chaperoning a number of students from the study center and
several local churches. Cannon recently taught a
beginning photography class for the upper classmen and teachers at
Rochelle School of the Arts. Eric Fullgraf is
working with MGM Studios on the logo for the upcoming Muppet movie,
Kermit's Swamp Years.
We are looking
forward to having a Christmas Open House at the study center during the
month of December. This will be a time when everyone can tour the
facilities, talk with the faculty, meet some of the students and
celebrate with thanksgiving God's goodness to Cambridge during this past
year. Details forthcoming!!
Just a reminder
to all students and parents that
the Thanksgiving break is November 21st-23rd. We trust that you will
have a blessed Thanksgiving with your families.
Please continue
to pray about the financial needs of the study center, for our students
as they are equipped to assume Christian leadership in our culture and
for our instructors as they teach and mentor the young people
(and adults) the Lord has entrusted to us at this time... we value your
prayers!
Sincerely,
