Bruce is well into his third week working
fulltime as director and instructor at the study center. He is settling
into a schedule of administrative duties and he has rescheduled some of his
classes from nights to days! There is a long list of things to be
done that have been pushed to one side as the study center has grown while
Bruce continued to work fulltime at Covenant Presbyterian Church. We are
grateful for the donations that have made this change possible. Please
pray with us that God will continue to provide through His people.
Bruce's Wednesday night adult class is growing
and this group continues to have a great time discussing Moby Dick and
Francis Schaeffer's Escape From Reason. Discussion since August has
centered around Hemingway's Islands in the Stream and London' Sea
Wolf. Discussion of Escape from Reason also began in August and
will continue for several more months. It will be followed by Hans
Rookmaaker's Modern Art and Death of a Culture. Another adult class
is planned to begin in August 2001.
Student news: Josiah Armes presented
a wonderful Classical/Holiday pipe organ concert at Southside
Baptist Church on Sunday, November 26th. It was a blessing to see
(and hear!) Josiah use his talents to glorify the Lord. Congratulations
to Lauren Saunders on a super column in the Ledger high
school supplement section a few weeks ago. Miriam Keim was
chosen Rookie of the Year on the Lakeland High School swim team and
lettered as a freshman! Gail Borden (one of our adult
students) was recently recognized as the top customer representative for Hall
Communications. Gail invited Bruce and I to the "Lessons and
Carols" at All Saints Episcopal Church, a service that we found both
edifying and worshipful. We enjoyed fine fellowship with Gail at the English
tea that followed.
Friday night, December l6th was the last
film night of the year. Film nights will resume the 1st and 3rd Friday
nights in January 2001. If you haven't been to a film night, we'd love to have
you visit anytime. Each night a serious film is viewed followed by a
lively discussion, refreshments and fellowship. Film nights are
open to adults as well as students and their friends. The website has a
"Film Nights" page that will list scheduled showings, as well
as past films.
Short term classes: The next short term class, Theatre:The
Stage of Ideas begins on Monday, January 8th. This class is a
survey of major plays and movements from William Shakespeare to Sam Shepard.
It will feature the viewing of six plays followed by critical discussion.
The class is scheduled for Mondays, Jan.8 through Feb.19, 6-9 p.m.
Please go to our website or call the study center at 646-7669 for more
information or to register. Cannon Kirby, instructor
for this class, also will be teaching an adult class at the Polk
Museum of Art in the Spring. The class will study the history,
techniques and art of photography. Contact the museum for more information.
Don Rule (another of our adult
students) continues to volunteer many hours fine tuning the study center
website. If you have never visited the website or haven't logged on in a
while, take a look: www.cambridgestudycenter.org.
Thank you Don for all your hard work!
If you are receiving a hard copy of eBridge,
but have an e-mail address, please let us know so that we can send you our
newsletter via the internet. We also would appreciate having the e-mail
addresses of others that would be interested in what's going on at
Cambridge Study Center.
Things will slow down around here for the next
few weeks while classes are out for the holidays. We look forward
to seeing our alumni over Christmas break to catch up on all their news
from their respective colleges. When classes resume in January, we hope
many of you will visit us to see what learning is like at Cambridge Study
Center!
We hope you are enjoying this
holiday season with your family and friends. This time of year
especially reminds us of God's goodness to us through the birth of His
son, Jesus Christ. What incredible grace when Christ became man to redeem
sinful man.
