Just a reminder to everyone that the scholarship
application deadline is fast approaching - May 14. Registration
deadline is not far behind - May 31. Scholarship applications and

The last Cambridge open house is scheduled
for Friday May 11. At the open house the Cambridge curricula are
presented and parents (and students) have the opportunity to ask questions of
the faculty. The open house is at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Bruce and Jane
Kirby, 1114 Colony Arms Court in Lakeland. Please remember that you need a
reservation to attend. Reservations can be made by contacting Jane at jkirby@cambridgestudycenter.org
We have a celebrity among us! Our own Eric
Fullgraf (Eric teaches the Language, Truth and Manners and Cambridge
Prep Year) will be flying to New York this Wednesday to appear on
"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" It will be exciting to see Eric in
the seat across from Regis if he can get past that fast finger thing they do
at the beginning! Please pray for Eric and Britney as they travel and
participate in the Millionaire.
Board members Allen and Harriet
Montgomery (Allen is the foundation board chairman) hosted our first Film
Night for Adults. Fourteen of us
watched the film "Apocalypse Now." The film was followed by
enthusiastic discussion lasting well into the night. Plan on joining us for the
next film night tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. The
evening will feature "Dancer in the Dark" starring
Bjork. Discussion and refreshments (please bring some) will follow.
Student news: Scott Phillips is
excelling on the Lakeland High School tennis team. Karis Medina just
returned from spending three weeks in Spain. Ask Karis about her visits
to museums and the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona. Bucky Banks has
been participating on the COLA Senior Championship Team (swimming). He
recently qualified to compete in the Speedo Southern Sectional Championship
Meet. Bucky, a sophomore, swam against high school champions from various
states and also against members of many Caribbean Olympic Teams. At COLA's
recent award banquet he was nominated for the Outstanding Athlete Award, the
Scholar Athlete Award and the Einstein Award. A nationally ranked swimmer won
the first award, a senior the second, but Bucky walked home with the Einstein
Award (our Miriam Keim, a freshman, also was nominated). Bucky, please accept
our enthusiastic congratulations!
Our first Cambridge student, Ben Keim,
now at the University of Virginia recently wrote the cover article for
"The Virginia Advocate" titled A Modest Proposal. The
article can be found on the internet at: http://www.student.virginia.edu/~vaad/v25n02/hookup.html
Our website now features a new Distinctives
page. The new page is the "heart" of our website,
articulating the Cambridge philosophy of ministry and education. It also
features supporting quotes from a number of well known educators and
others. You can go directly to the Distinctives page at http://www.cambridgestudycenter.org/distinctives.htm
Much thanks to Don Rule for his hard work revamping this part of the website.
Don is currently working on our Programs page hoping to make it more
informative. You probably will see it posted in the next few days.
Marshall Rowe from Covenant College will make
a presentation of the college on Wednesday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting
will be hosted by Dr. and Mrs. John Tucker at 3431 Bridgefield Drive in
Lakeland. All who are interested in Covenant College (and we highly recommend
the college) are welcome to attend.
Cambridge is presently considering the purchase
of property but we face a tremendous financial challenge. That challenge can
only be met with God's help. We need your prayer support more than ever.
Please continue to pray for us.
